I'm starting a blog for my portraits

Sooo I paint a lot of portraits, and most of what goes into them never makes it onto social media. Partly because it's effort, partly because social media doesn't really reward the effort put into describing the process.

Not that I don't think there isn't value in this. It's just not valuable to a mass group of people like a viral reveal video set to trending audio might be.

These blogs are going to be for my current, past, and future customers. This (hopefully) will build trust, and give insight into what paying a human artist for hand painted art is valuable for.

Instagram wants the finished painting, a quick caption, and then it wants me to move on to the next post (or even worse, a reel lol).

There's hardly any room to explain why I picked that one reference photo out of the twenty someone sent me, or what I changed from the photo, or the part of the painting that almost made me start over.

Crash's finished watercolor portrait on Megan Crow's white art desk, surrounded by watercolor paints, brushes, and a water cup.
My workspace featuring a watercolor painting of a senior tabby cat named Crash, surrounded by an array of art supplies including brushes, a water container, and my palette. My desk is messy and stained, oh well lol.

So I am starting a blog here on my website. When I can, a portrait is going to get its own post where I can actually dig in. The reference photo, the process, the decisions, the hard parts, all of it. No character limit, or *shudder* algorithm deciding it is too long or boring to show anyone.

I'm planning on starting with the portraits I have full process videos for on my YouTube channel, since those already have the most to dig into. After that, new portraits will get posts as I paint them, and I will work my way through the older ones too. I recently logged all my art in a spreadsheet (300. Yep. About 300 paintings) so it is going to take a while lol.

If you are thinking about commissioning a portrait, this is also the best way to see what working with me actually looks like before you ever message me.

Want one of your own? You can commission me right here through my website, the pricing page has the sizes and how ordering works. If you would rather chat first, I am fastest on Instagram at @onecreativecrow. I am also on YouTube under the same name, if you want to watch a portrait come together before you commit to anything.

First portrait post coming soon!

Megan
